Events & Learning Experiences

Being a detail-oriented, thorough researcher has benefited Cheryn in more than just her art. As a career association management professional specializing in instructional design, she has worked to organize dozens of large-scale professional conferences nationally and internationally, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing those efforts come to life through the enjoyment of those attendees.

A former Disney Cast Member, trained historical reenactor, and true grown-up theater kid, she has always loved to throw community parties and find excuses to celebrate the little things. She has extended her event planning capabilities into local functions, planning everything from free theme parties in Richmond and D.C. to kids' birthday celebrations to convention panels and workshops

Cheryn has taught classes and workshops to all ages since 2010 and is professionally trained in instructional design and dialogue education for adult learning. She is also a certified Virginia Master Naturalist.

Cheryn is currently taking on new projects, starting with a pay-what-you-can consultation. Inquire here!

Teambuilding

byrd talk.jpeg

Is your team struggling with burnout? Communication issues? Just looking for another way to connect and understand each other? Teambuilding exercises are a great way to see new sides of your teammates and refresh your brains and your relationships.

  • All crafts and workshops can be converted to teambuilding opportunities for small businesses and teams.

  • Cheryn is also able to design a unique project or game based on your team's needs.

  • Available in-person (Cheryn travels to you!) or virtually, depending on experience.

Instructional Design

Learning should always be engaging, and learning environments should be safe. Safety allows for curiosity and growth. Teachers are just another kind of learner, and this informal, communicative, and often a little goofy style is how Cheryn prefers to interact with all the folks that she works with.

Thoughtful instructional design follows the same process as creating a new game - setting expectations for what you are doing together, what to expect from the course/game (including timing and external commitments!) - and it should be responsive. Breaking learning down into digestible chunks that can be examined, discussed, and practiced is just another way to tell a story. If you design those chunks effectively, you've got a memorable story and a new skill.

Applying this process to create training manuals and SOPs can be especially effective for small businesses.
